The Tetris Building is a lively and iconic development located along the arterial ring road near Etihad City in Manchester.

The process
This project's name, "Tetris", was of course inspired by the 80s Game which we all know. While we were designing this building, we came to realise that it sort of resembles the Tetris game itself in some art, and the name has stuck since!
The curved site shape gave some clues on how the form could be developed but the design emphasis was on trying to make the form playful and distinctive.
After many successful failures in the design process, one of the ‘Tetris’ shapes was chosen as a simple but powerful form to be applied on the facade with varying versions.
The form of the building was kept minimal by applying contemporary aluminium projecting window frames on a simple buff coloured brick mass.
The textured brick mass contrasts well with the smooth, matte-finished gold colour cladding material. The overall building shape keeps the on-looker engaged by its constantly changing vistas as you travel along Hulme Hall Lane.
Our aspiration was to achieve an iconic building which acts as a landmark regeneration project to the local area.
The proposal consists of a mix of 1/2/3 bedroom apartments with generous area sizes. The overall scheme is compliant with Manchester’s own Residential Standards guidelines, making it a key regeneration project in the local context.
